2025 Socorro Business Summit Brings Small and Large Industry Leaders Together

business expansion summit celebrates its second year

SOCORRO, TEXAS (November 19, 2025) – Socorro is shaping the future of small and large industry in El Paso County! On Wednesday, November 19th, the City of Socorro held its second annual Business Expansion Summit at the El Paso Community College Mission Del Paso Campus, bringing together micro, medium, and large industry leaders to learn about Socorro’s growing business environment. With over eighty (80) attendees, this pivotal event continues to serve as a bridge between small local enterprises and global-scale companies, ensuring that Socorro’s economic growth benefits businesses of every size.

The summit began with brief opening remarks from Socorro’s Mayor, Rudy Cruz, followed by an insightful presentation from the University of Texas at El Paso’s HUNT Institute, which described the advantageous business environment in Socorro. This growing business-friendly environment has attracted larger companies, such as Maersk and Wiwynn, in recent years. Through strategic tools such as Chapter 380 agreements, the City is investing at the large-industry level in ways that directly open doors for local service providers, suppliers, and small producers.

Mayor Cruz further highlighted the City’s recent accomplishments in the area of economic development, including the establishment of the City’s very own Foreign Trade Zone 302, and most recently, the Texas Economic Development Council’s (TEDC) 2025 Community Economic Development Award to Socorro for its partnership with Wiwynn. Representatives from various local agencies, including the Small Business Administration, EPCC’s Small Business Development Center, Project Vida, and Workforce Solutions Borderplex, among others, were on hand to network with small businesses and large industry partners. Summits like these play a crucial role in strengthening the region’s business ecosystem by intentionally connecting small companies with expanding industrial operations.

This event would not have been possible without the generosity of our event sponsors. The City of Socorro and Economic Recovery Office would like to thank our event sponsors for their continued support. Their support demonstrates a shared commitment to fostering local entrepreneurship and expanding economic opportunity in Socorro.
