Wiwynn is investing $152 million and 549 quality jobs in socorro
The City of Socorro is proud to welcome Wiwynn Technology Corporation to our community! In a monumental step forward for our city’s growth, Wiwynn is investing $152 million in a new manufacturing and distribution campus right here in the Socorro Logistics Centre Park. This is more than just a significant economic development, it’s a chance to bring prosperity, opportunity, and new energy to the Socorro community.
With this investment, Wiwynn will create 514 brand-new jobs and retain an additional 35 regional positions, bringing a total of 549 jobs to Socorro. The jobs created through this investment are expected to have a wide-reaching impact, not only boosting Socorro’s local economy but also benefiting the entire region. With an average wage of $26.80 per hour plus benefits, and significantly higher than the median county wage $17.31, these jobs will put more money into the hands of workers, their families, and the local economy. As part of this project, Wiwynn will be seeking to hire engineers, technicians, and logistics specialists, among other positions.
The new campus will feature two expansive industrial buildings covering over 866,000 square feet and will serve as a production hub for cutting-edge cloud-based AI and edge computing servers. These products will help power the digital infrastructure of tomorrow and will be built right here in our backyard.
Wiwynn’s decision to invest in Socorro reflects our city’s growing reputation as a destination for high-tech manufacturing and innovation. The City Council recently approved a Chapter 380 agreement, offering up to $1.2 million in tax incentives to support this transformative project. In return, Wiwynn has committed to an initial investment of at least $92 million in personal property and building improvements, while ensuring that at least 5% of the newly created jobs go to Socorro residents. Wiwynn is expected to continue investments beyond the $92 million required by the City of Socorro’s Chapter 380 agreement up to a total of $152 million in the coming years.
Mayor Rudy Cruz summed it up best:
“This isn’t just a win for Socorro—it’s a statement to the world. Wiwynn’s decision to plant roots here proves that our city is no longer a hidden gem—we are a rising star in global tech. With this $152 million investment and 514 high-skilled jobs, we’re not just building a facility; we’re building futures, forging innovation, and putting Socorro on the map as the City with a Mission and a momentum that can’t be stopped.”
With Socorro leading West Texas in industrial growth and now home to the nation’s newest U.S. Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ No. 302), we’re not just growing, we’re thriving. This is just the beginning.
We’re excited for the future, and we invite all Socorro residents to take pride in this new chapter. Whether you’re looking for a job, running a local business, or simply cheering on our city’s success, this is a moment to celebrate!
Stay tuned for updates on hiring opportunities and more as Wiwynn ramps up operations. Socorro’s future is bright, and it’s being built by us.
