Boards & Commissions

The City of Socorro, Texas shall establish and maintain the commissions for the benefit of the residents, and whose records, operations, and documents shall be overseen by the office of the City Clerk. The established Commissions all serve different purposes that are beneficial for the City and its development. Commissioners are assigned responsibility for a specific aspect of municipal affairs. Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor and City Council, without any direct election by the voters.  Each City Commission shall be made up of a specific number of commissioners as outlined by their respective ordinance, with a designated Chairman and Vice-Chairman (chairs are voted on in the commission meeting by the commissioners), Secretary, and City Liaison Officer to serve as subject matter & technical advisor.

Board of Adjustments

Meetings are held the fourth Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m.

The Board of Adjustments holds hearings and determines appeals from the refusal of building permits, appeals resulting from administrative decisions and to permit an authorized exception or variation from the zoning regulations.

Building & Standards Commission

Meetings are held as needed by ordinance.

The Building and Standards Commission holds public hearings in substandard buildings cases pursuant to Chapter 6, article IV of the Code and administrative hearings for nuisance cases pursuant to chapter 28, article II of the City of Socorro’s Municode.

Civil Service Commission

Meetings are held the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m

The Civil Service Commission recommends to City Council the adoption of rules for the administration of Civil Service provisions and to investigate matters concerning the enforcement and effect of Civil Service provisions. In addition, the commission hears and determines appeals and complaints and oversees the Civil Service provisions.

Ethics Commission

The Ethics Commission Meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month, Quarterly. 

The Ethics Commission provides external oversight and enforcement of ethics laws. The goal of an Ethics Commission is to enhance public trust in the ethics enforcement process.
