Socorro is one of 6 communities in texas to receive recognition
The City of Socorro is proud to announce that it has been selected as a recipient of the annual Community Economic Development Award (CEDA) for 2025 in the 20,001 to 50,000 population category by the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC). Socorro is one of only six communities across Texas to be recognized for its strong commitment to economic growth and vitality.
The CEDA program recognizes exceptional contributions of TEDC member cities towards the economic vitality of their communities through creativity, leadership, and partnership in the achievement of business retention, business recruitment, and community improvement. Of 49 applications received this year, the CEDA committee selected only 6 communities to receive this award.
The City of Socorro receives this award for its leadership earlier this year, and collaboration with El Paso County and the Borderplex Alliance on a new $152 million manufacturing investment by Wiwynn that will bring over 514 new high-skill, high-paying jobs to Socorro. With an average wage of $26.80 per hour plus benefits, this project will not benefit Socorro alone, but the entire East El Paso County area.
The impact of this project was highlighted by Mayor Rudy Cruz earlier this year:
“This isn’t just a win for Socorro—it’s a statement to the world. Wiwynn’s decision to plant roots here proves that our city is no longer a hidden gem—we are a rising star in global tech. With this $152 million investment and 514 high-skilled jobs, we’re not just building a facility; we’re building futures, forging innovation, and putting Socorro on the map as the City with a Mission and a momentum that can’t be stopped.”
The City of Socorro extends its congratulations to the Village of Vinton, which also received the 2025 CEDA award in the 10,000 and under population category. We are honored that El Paso County is represented at the Texas Economic Development Council by two smaller communities, Socorro and Vinton, both making a big impact across our region.
City officials, Administration, and staff are committed to excellence in economic development and are excited for the future. This is a moment to celebrate and continue our commitment to Socorro- the City with a Mission!
